Masego – Breathe [Video]
Masego returns with “Breathe,” a vulnerable new single and official video that moves through grief, pressure, and emotional release.
Masego lets “Breathe” open slowly. The official video arrives a few days after the single itself, adding another piece to a more exposed chapter for the Grammy-nominated singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist.
The record moves with the warmth and detail people come to him for, but it does not feel like one of his brighter flexes. “Breathe” is softer, heavier, and more inward-facing, with Masego working through grief, pressure, and the strange demand to keep functioning while real life is still happening in the background. A choir rises around him without turning the song into grandstanding; the emotion stays close to the chest, carried by restraint as much as release.
That intimacy gives the track its weight. Masego’s music has always lived somewhere between R&B, jazz, hip-hop, and live-band looseness, but “Breathe” narrows the focus around the writing. He sounds less interested in dazzling the room than in making space for a moment he cannot quite shake off.
The single also points toward his next larger phase, with the “Fix Your Face” headline tour set to bring new material onto the stage later this year. “Breathe” feels like a quiet reset before that run — not a retreat, but a pause long enough to let the human part back in.
