Steve Lacy – The Feeling [Video]

Steve Lacy releases “the feeling,” the first taste of his upcoming third album Oh yeah?, alongside a Matthew Castellanos-directed video.

Lacy’s next chapter is officially in motion. “the feeling” introduces Oh yeah?, his upcoming third album, with a strange, glowing mix of guitar, falsetto, and off-kilter pop pressure.

The song does not chase the immediacy of “Bad Habit” so much as bend away from it. Lacy sounds looser here, letting the groove wobble and bloom while his voice folds into layered harmonies near the edges. There is still plenty of funk in the DNA, but “the feeling” moves with a more warped, handmade energy—intimate, slightly surreal, and built around small details rather than a huge hook.

That mood carries into the Matthew Castellanos-directed video, where Lacy appears in dreamlike fragments: a floating head in darkness, a guitar in an empty room, sparks, skin, color, and space. It fits the song’s restless shape without over-explaining it.

Oh yeah? is due July 17 via RCA Records under exclusive license from L-M Records. Until then, “the feeling” gives the album its first real pulse.
