Instead, it leans into warm vocals, soft tension, and direct songwriting, letting the emotional weight build through small details rather than big gestures.

From “Bet On Me” into “Come Together” and “Snatch,” Papercut quickly settles into a smooth but guarded mood. Imani’s voice is the anchor throughout—light enough to glide through the production, but sharp enough to give the writing a little sting when the subject matter turns messy. Songs like “You’re Mine,” “Mindgames,” and “Chasing” circle around attraction, uncertainty, and the quiet damage that comes with wanting someone who may not be good for you.

The second half keeps that feeling intact without flattening the album into one color. “Slideee” and “1 of 1” give the project a little more movement, while “Let Go (wishes)” and “My Mistakes” close things out on a more reflective note. For a first full-length statement, Papercut feels focused: no bloated guest list, no forced spectacle, just a new voice using space, melody, and restraint to make the introduction stick.
