Syd feat. Blu June – Callin [Audio]
Syd is setting up a new chapter with “Callin,” a soft-focus R&B duet with Blu June that leads into her upcoming album, Beard.
The track is short, warm, and quietly magnetic, built around the feeling of trying to reach someone while everything around you feels a little too public, a little too loud, and a little too exposed. Syd keeps her voice close to the surface, letting the tension sit in the pauses rather than overplaying it. Blu June slips into that same intimate space, turning “Callin” into something more conversational than dramatic.
There is a late-’90s R&B tint to the record, but it never feels frozen in nostalgia. Syd co-produced the song with Nova Wav, while Raphael Saadiq adds bass, giving the single a clean, lived-in glow beneath its uneasy mood.
Beard is set to arrive July 17 via Free Lunch / Warner Records and marks Syd’s first solo album since Broken Hearts Club. The 12-track project is expected to include contributions from Raphael Saadiq, Big Sean, Rodney Jerkins, James Fauntleroy, Van Hunt, Jordan Ward, and Blu June, with “Callin” sitting near the top of the tracklist.
