Little Simz – Sugar Girl [EP]

Little Simz keeps the pace moving with “Sugar Girl,” a new EP that slips in after last year’s “Lotus” and brings her back into a shorter, sharper format.

Instead of stretching toward the wide-screen architecture of her albums, the North London artist uses these four songs for quick shifts in color: club pressure, melodic edges, loosened flows and a few unexpected guest turns.

The project opens with “That’s a No No,” setting the tone before Simz brings in JT for the punchier “Game On.” DEELA adds a different texture to “Open Arms,” while 070 Shake closes things out on “Telephone,” giving the EP its most atmospheric turn. Built with producer Jakwob, “Sugar Girl” feels more impulsive than heavy-handed, the kind of release that lets Simz move sideways without overexplaining the move.

It is a compact drop, but not a throwaway one. Simz has often used her EPs to test pressure points between albums, and “Sugar Girl” keeps that instinct alive: direct enough for the moment, loose enough to hint at where she might take things next.
