Earl Sweatshirt, MIKE & Surf Gang – POMPEII // UTILITY [Album Stream]

Earl Sweatshirt, MIKE, and Surf Gang finally make the long-simmering link-up official on “POMPEII // UTILITY,” a 33-track double LP that split its April 3 release between MIKE’s 15-song “POMPEII” side and Earl’s 18-song “UTILITY” half.

The project had already been building momentum through early cuts like “Minty,” “Earth,” “Back Home,” and “Home on the Range,” but in full it lands less like a loose posse experiment than a real world with its own logic and temperature.

That scale is a big part of what makes the album hit. Harrison handled much of the production, and the music gives both rappers exactly the kind of backdrop that suits them best—clipped, restless, warped, and strangely spacious at the same time. MIKE brings the warmer, more blurred-in motion on his side, while Earl leans into the colder, more skeletal drift of his, and the contrast keeps the whole thing moving instead of letting the runtime drag. With guests like Jadasea, Anysia Kym, Niontay, Na-Kel Smith, and Lerado Khalil woven into the tracklist, “POMPEII // UTILITY” feels less like a crossover event than a meeting point for artists who have already been orbiting the same underground language for years.
