Bun B & Statik Selektah – Trillstatik 5 [Album Stream]
Bun B and Statik Selektah keep their live-album tradition alive with “Trillstatik 5”, the fifth chapter in their collaborative series and the first one built in Miami.
Recorded in one session on December 6 at the Kimpton Anglers Hotel while fans watched along on livestream, the project was finished, mastered and then rolled out digitally a few days later – 11 tracks, about 31 minutes, released via Showoff Records.
Just like the earlier installments, every beat is handled by Statik, with Bun in full host mode over a bed of warm, sample-heavy boom bap.
The guest list is serious but tight: Busta Rhymes pops up on opener “You’re Mine”, Talib Kweli checks in twice (on “Crooklyn 25” with NEMS and again on “Still At It”), while cuts like “Junk Yard Dogs” (with Bone Crusher) and “Trill Man Dem” (with Yaadcore & Friyie) stretch the sound without breaking the formula. Further in, “Let Me Know” with Termanology & Tony Sunshine and “To The Ceiling” with Premo Rice, Robb Bank$ & Billie Essco tap into slick, late-night energy, before “Bringing Polo Back” and the outro “1 Time 4 Da 5th” close things out with pure posse-cut spirit.
Overall, “Trillstatik 5” plays like a half-hour highlight reel of what this series does best: Bun B’s seasoned Southern presence front and center, Statik’s dusty drums and soulful loops snapping underneath, and a rotating cast of guests dropping in like they just walked into the live room mid-session. It’s raw, efficient, and built to run front to back with no skips. Spin “Trillstatik 5” below and file it next to the earlier installments – this one feels like the series leveling up rather than just keeping it going.
