Blu, MED & Bane Capital – Good Men Die Like Dogs [Album]
West meets east in a very literal way on “Good Men Die Like Dogs” – the new full-length from California stalwarts Blu & MED and Toronto production outfit Bane Capital, dropping exclusively via banecapitalshop.com with vinyl on the way.
Building on their 2023 “Good Fortune” EP, the trio stretch the formula into a full album: Blu and MED in focused, veteran form over a dense, sample-heavy suite that pulls from soul, R&B, psychedelic rock and jazz without ever losing its East/West underground backbone.
The record runs eight tracks – “mighty(UNTOUCHABLE)”, “THEIR TING” (feat. Knowledge the Pirate), “EASY – ALL NIGHT”, “AMERICANSLOPFOOD”, “THROWBACK BALANCES” (feat. Planet Asia), “IWASREADY”, “HEADCHEESE” and “WESTSIDE DIVISION” (feat. AKAI SOLO) – all produced, art-directed and executive-produced by Bane Capital, with mixing and mastering handled by Wavy Gillespie. It’s a tight, front-to-back listen – no skits, no filler, just chewy, layered beats and two rappers treating every verse like a cipher slot.
Even the title has teeth: it nods to the Hunter S. Thompson line about the music business being a place “where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs” – the kind of dark joke that fits an album released off DSPs, sold direct and built like a cult object (complete with limited vinyl and Bane Capital’s whole design universe around it).
If “Good Fortune” felt like a proof of concept, “Good Men Die Like Dogs” is the full statement – dusty, modern, and very much one for people who still like their rap albums short, sharp and built to live beyond the timeline.
