Skyzoo – Sky Is Like [Video]
Brooklyn wordsmith Skyzoo kicks off his next chapter with “Sky Is Like”, the lead single and first visual from his upcoming album “Views of a Lifetime”, dropping tomorrow, December 5.
Produced by DJ Manipulator, the track is a razor-sharp boom-bap exercise that finds Sky in full street-orator mode – densely packed punchlines, layered metaphors and the kind of detail-heavy writing only he seems to pull off this casually.
Conceptually, “Sky Is Like” is a modern flip on Nas’ classic “Nas Is Like” – same looping phrase structure, completely new scripture. Instead of reworking the original beat, Sky and Manipulator build something fresh from the ground up, using the hook format as a springboard for a full-on lyrical barrage while never turning the song into nostalgia cosplay. It plays like a love letter to late-90s New York rap that still snaps right into 2025.
The video, directed by Victorious De Costa, keeps the focus exactly where it should be: on the verses and the delivery. Clean, performance-driven shots and a muted, street-level palette give the clip a classic feel, echoing the era it’s saluting without trying to recreate Nas’ original visuals frame-for-frame. It’s the kind of no-frills, all-bars presentation that lets the writing breathe and underlines how comfortable Skyzoo is carrying a whole record on pure pen and presence.
“Sky Is Like” also sets the tone for “Views of a Lifetime” as a whole, a conceptual project Sky describes as looking back on “what was” after the growth of his last album Keep Me Company. Reflecting on old dreams, choices, and chapters from the vantage point of who he is now.
With production across the album from Camouflage Monk, Tuamie, Cartune Beatz, Conductor Williams, Thelonious Martin, Leo Confident, The Other Guys and DJ Manipulator, you can expect dusty drums, soulful grit and plenty more of this high-art street energy.
Hit play on “Sky Is Like” below and get ready for “Views of a Lifetime” – this feels like the opening statement to something big.
