Mick Jenkins & EMIL – On VHS [Video]

Mick Jenkins and EMIL keep the “A Murder of Crows” campaign rolling with the new video for “On VHS”, one of the most instantly replayable cuts off their joint album.

The track lands mid-way through the record and locks straight into the project’s noir-rap mood – all late-night focus, side-eye commentary and unbothered confidence.

Produced by EMIL with additional work from Kirti Pandey (and Moo Latte in the album credits), “On VHS” rides a low-key groove: dusty drums, soft keys and small, cinematic details that feel like tape hiss and static baked into the beat. It’s smooth and head-noddy, but there’s a faint tension underneath that matches the album’s “urban film score” feel.

Lyrically, Jenkins treats the song like a flexed-out concept piece. He runs through movie language and analog references, comparing his rap craft to old films you watch on tape. Then he flips into everyday images – kitchen work, small hustles, people fronting about what they’ve actually done – to talk about effort, integrity, and who really puts in the work. The wordplay comes fast, but the tone stays calm; it feels like he’s talking to you from the couch while a bootleg classic plays in the background.

The new visual keeps that energy tight. Shot by Yussef Haridy and edited by C.T. Robert, with graphic touches from Sam Erickson, the clip gives “On VHS” its own little screen – a focused performance piece that lets the writing, the mood, and the chemistry between Jenkins and EMIL carry everything.

Hit play on “On VHS” below and then circle back to “A Murder of Crows” from the top – this track is a perfect entry point into one of Mick Jenkins’ most cohesive front-to-back projects to date.
