Homeboy Sandman – Look Alive [Audio]
Homeboy Sandman is back on his soapbox with “Look Alive”.
The brand-new single lands as a name-your-price drop on Bandcamp and a teaser for his upcoming mixtape “These Titles Are Getting Pretty Silly AKA Can’t Sell 4”, due out December 5. Over the instrumental from “L-TRAIN” by Silas Short, he gets a crisp, jazzy backdrop of drums, keys and bass to dance over for just over three minutes.
Lyrically, this is Sandman in full wake-up-call mode. He opens by flipping the hook into a mantra – “LOOK ALIVE, Y’ALL” – and spends the verses pushing back at media clowning regular people, herd mentality and get-rich-quick scammers. He talks about unlocking the divine, going against the grain, remembering what the neighborhood used to be before it got flipped, and staying ready for “the incorrect internet scammer” instead of drifting off in a haze. It’s dense, funny, and sharp in that uniquely Sand way: spiritual without being preachy, grounded in little New York details and full of those crooked internal rhymes that stick in your head.
“Look Alive” also slides neatly into his current 2025 run, joining recent one-offs like “Privileged and Elite”, “Meant to Be” and “Tears of Joy”, plus the “Corn Hole Legend” project with yeyts., all rolled out directly through his own channels. As a preview of “These Titles Are Getting Pretty Silly AKA Can’t Sell 4”, this one does exactly what it needs to: remind you that Homeboy Sandman is still on the front line for weird, principled, underground hip-hop – and he’s telling you to keep your eyes open while he’s at it.
