Von Pea and The Other Guys are back in full effect with their new collaboration album “Putcha Weight On It”.

11 tracks of jazzy boom bap, grown-man flexing and inside-joke chemistry that pick up right where their earlier work left off. Clocking in at around 31 minutes, the project reunites the Brooklyn MC with the DMV production duo for the first time since their run on “To: You“, “The Fiasco“, and “I’m Good Luv, Enjoy“, and it feels like a proper sequel rather than a nostalgia trip.

Produced entirely by The Other Guys and mixed/mastered by Brian Kidd, “Putcha Weight On It” leans hard into soulful sample chops, warm basslines and crisp drums – that sweet spot where golden-era textures meet 2025 perspective.

Von Pea sounds completely at home here: razor-sharp, conversational and funny in that way that only really works when the pen is tight. The album even comes stamped with its own mission statement: “We on our Michael Jackson shit… ALL HITS!!” – and the sequencing really does feel like a no-skips, front-to-back ride.

Track-wise, the weight’s spread perfectly. “More Johnny” opens with pure boom bap and legacy talk, while “Roadblock” brings in Che Noir for heavy bar work about pushing past obstacles. The title cut, “Putcha Weight On It: Extra Weight” with Donwill & Skyzoo, is a dusty jazz-rap centerpiece that feels like a Lessondary family reunion and a street corner cipher at the same time. Deeper in, “Knew It All” featuring Oddisee threads jazz and boom bap together while addressing know-it-alls, and “Love Over Like” (again with Donwill) flips things into a soulful, grown take on romance and real-life priorities.

The closing stretch is just as strong. “Shown Up” plays with the drums dropping in and out like waves, “Bway & Myrtle” digs into grind-season reflections, and “Root For The Villian” signs off with a funky salute that nods to the spirit of MF DOOM without ever turning into pastiche.

It’s all delivered under the HiPNOTT Records banner, with digital out now and limited CD and 12″ vinyl pressings on deck for collectors.

Bottom line: Putcha Weight On It is Von Pea & The Other Guys doing exactly what you want them to do in 2025 – tightening the chemistry, stacking replayable joints and proving that jazzy boom bap still hits heavy, when the writing and production both carry their weight.
