Tems – Love Is A Kingdom [EP]

Tems’ new EP “Love Is A Kingdom” plays like a deep exhale after the global run of “Born in the Wild“—short, focused and intensely personal.

The seven-track project arrives as a surprise release, running just 19 minutes, and finds her almost completely in charge: producing, composing and writing the songs herself while continuing her partnership with RCA Records and Since ’93.

Sonically, she leans into a warm blend of alt-R&B, Afrobeats and airy, emotional production, the lane she’s been perfecting over the last few years. Tracks like “First,” “I’m Not Sure,” and “Big Daddy” circle around doubt, devotion and the realization that self-love has to come first, while “Lagos Love,” “Mine” and “Is There a Reason” push things into almost spiritual territory—part love song, part prayer. It’s intimate music that still feels big, the kind of writing that can play quietly in headphones and still carry arena-level emotion.

Coming off Grammy recognition for “Born in the Wild“—including a win for “Love Me JeJe” and nominations for Best Global Music Album and Best R&B Song—Tems could easily have chased a safer, more polished follow-up. Instead, Love Is A Kingdom feels stripped back and self-contained, like a note passed directly to the people who’ve been listening closely from the start. It’s a small project on paper, but the clarity, control and emotional weight make it one of her most revealing releases yet.
