Statik Selektah, The Musalini & Wais P – Choose Or Lose [Album Stream]
Statik Selektah has built his reputation on bridging eras—keeping the soul of boom bap intact while giving it enough shine to resonate today.
In 2025, he’s back at it with “Choose or Lose”, a new project that teams him with New York lyricists The Musalini and Wais P. The result is a sharp, polished project that proves timeless hip-hop still hits hard.
For Musalini, fresh off his Jamla Records run with projects like “Pure Izm 2”, the collab adds another brick to his growing legacy as one of New York’s most consistent voices. Wais P, a veteran with decades in the game—most recently dropping “Cocaine” with Khrysis—brings the grit of experience. Their only prior link-up was on a Planet Asia single, but a full joint effort with Statik always felt inevitable.
The EP moves with intention. “Can a Player Live?” opens on a bluesy loop and crisp drums, while “Return of the Mack” leans into a lush, cinematic groove built for slick bars. “How to Knocka” strips it back to raw basement energy, and “Live in the Flesh” smooths things out without softening the bite.
From there, “4 Real” delivers pure boom bap bravado, “Cashmere Coast” adds a synthy gloss without losing toughness, and “Sake Bombs” flips church organs into a celebration of legacy. The closer, “Pimpin’ Saved,” hints that Musalini’s next solo run could be a serious shake-up.
For Statik Selektah, “Choose or Lose” is another reminder of his gift: pairing the right emcees with the right beats to keep New York hip-hop moving forward while staying rooted in tradition.
