Erykah Badu & The Alchemist – Next To You [Audio]

Erykah Badu and The Alchemist are officially teaming up for a full album, and their debut single “Next to You” has just dropped.

According to a press release, Badu not only co-produced the track with The Alchemist but also wrote, composed, arranged, and self-executive produced it. The beat comes from The Alchemist’s classic 1999 track “The Realest”, originally featuring Prodigy and Kool G Rap from Mobb Deep’s Murda Muzik. Badu reimagines the instrumental, singing about smoking blunts and spending time with a loved one after school, before the beat flips, and she adds her signature “‘izm” to the track.
