Although Cordae has lived in various locations, he proudly identifies with the DMV, and his Tiny Desk Concert felt like a homecoming.
He anticipated and received an overwhelming amount of local support. His performance was a carefully orchestrated affair, featuring a large ensemble of musicians and vocalists, all sporting vintage artist tees, showcasing his musical influences. Cordae’s attention to detail was clear from the precise soundcheck onwards. The set, largely drawn from “The Crossroads,” explored themes of fame and fatherhood, while “06 dreamin” offered a glimpse into his past, incorporating a sample of his mother’s singing. A highlight of the show was a touching moment where he invited his mother, Jennifer Dunston, to join him on stage.
