Gangsta Gibbs’ Halloween 2024 release might not lean into horror aside from a few devilish comedy bits, but it’s a treat for fans of the Midwest emcee’s sharp lyricism. Arriving about two years after his celebrated major-label debut, “$oul $old $eparately“, this long-awaited follow-up delivers Gibbs’ signature raw energy. Starting with the freewheeling opener “Status”, he rewards listeners with reckless yet resonant bars. His knack for pairing intense narratives with laidback beats is evident, especially on tracks like “Brick Fees”, full of gritty details, and “Steel Doors”, with its vivid storytelling. Even on the 454-produced “Walk It Off”, where gunshots echo, Gibbs maintains his cool, often blending singing with rapping. He also addresses the personal drama that surfaces on his socials in “It’s Your Anniversary”, dismissing baby-mama issues and shading rappers who avoid collaborations with him. In short, this album is pure Freddie Kane at his finest.
