Muni Long – Revenge [Album Stream]
Muni Long is back with her sophomore album, “Revenge”.
Priscilla Renea first made a name for herself as a songwriter, creating hits for artists like Ariana Grande, Rihanna, and Mariah Carey. However, in 2020, she transitioned from behind-the-scenes work to performing as Muni Long, gaining widespread attention with her Grammy-winning single “Hrs & Hrs.” “I studied a lot before becoming a writer,” Long shared with Apple Music. “I’ve been writing since I was eight, but I didn’t know it was songwriting back then. I just wrote down my ideas in a notebook.” Her second album, Revenge, continues to capture her growth and journey as an artist, resembling a personal diary.
For Long, “Revenge” encapsulates a significant idea: “The best revenge is success.” The album’s 14 tracks explore various relationships, serving as a platform for her to process emotions and experiences. These include societal pressures to find a partner by a certain age (“30s”), deep emotional connections (“Superpowers”), and unhealthy relationships (“Make Me Forget”).
In the title track, Long reflects on a breakup and moves away from seeking revenge, even though she’s hurt by betrayal. “Not lookin’ for revenge/Especially on someone I once considered a friend/I’d rather make amends”, she sings. She also admits, “Maybe five years ago, Priscilla would’ve been ready to burn this whole thing down”, but now she’s “knocking everything over, but I’m not doing that now.”
