Wiz Khalifa – Wiz Owens [Mixtape]

Wiz Khalifa, the beloved rapper among stoners, has returned with a full-length project called “Wiz Owens”.

The 13-track tape has a runtime of approximately 35 minutes and kicks off with a boom bap rap style on the opening track, “Jet Lag”. Wiz Khalifa smoothly rides this beat before transitioning into “Crispy T”, a track inspired by both trap and boom bap elements, where he boasts about distributing a significant amount of kush in the streets. We have a feeling he might not be exaggerating!

The project carries that classic Wiz touch and embraces a minimalist approach. Even the album artwork is simply a plain white slide with the name “Wiz Owens” on it. To us, that’s a fantastic approach — it allows us to focus solely on the music. In this project, we hear a more mature Wiz, who is keenly aware of his current status within the culture and the industry at large.

This sentiment shines beautifully on “Yellow Diamonds”, where Wiz discusses teaching young rappers what kind of music to make and what to smoke. This self-assured confidence, reflecting his experience and accomplishments, is fitting for Wiz, who has both the persona and skill to back up his claims.

The mellow vibes carry on with “1200 to Smoke”, where Wiz raps about being unimpressed with newer rappers, asserting his role as a true pioneer. With a steady, calm confidence, he acknowledges the pressure building up but assures us that he’s built for it. This journey of mellow, smoke-worthy beats and raps continues until we reach “On Bro”, where Wiz amps up the energy with a sampled high-intensity beat—an instant rager.

He even brings dance club vibes on “Dream About You”, a curious blend of guitar riffs and Jersey-inspired trap. The album concludes with “Smoke Break”, where Wiz delves deeper into introspection. He sounds more candid, more vulnerable, and more renewed than ever before. The last bar on the track reinforces this interpretation, as Wiz signs off as the “King of Weed”. All in all, if you enjoy taking a smoke break with music at the end of a long day, this might be the perfect project for you. Take a listen below.
