Donwill – Sketchpad [Album Stream]

Tanya Morgan’s Donwill has released a new solo project called “Sketchpad”.

I don’t remember when I started this album but it began to exist around the same time as Moonlighting. I never considered it as being finished but I stopped actively working on it shortly after Brooklynati was released. In the 3-4 year time that I worked on it I lived in my Grandmother’s basement in Ohio, in a sparsely furnished apartment in Maryland and a room for rent in Brooklyn and my headspace was completely different in each living space. I like to imagine that somewhere in the multi-verse this album instead of Don Cusack in High Fidelity. A few of these songs are technically done but most of them are just very well fleshed out demos meaning that the verses are placeholders with mispronounced words imperfect cadences. I kept saying that I’d redo them to fix or update lines but due to other projects, moving around and perfection syndrome I never did. going in to finish them now is kinda tricky since I’m so far removed from the person that I was when I made this music. With this in mind I figured it was better to honor that moment in time by letting them exist as is. In it’s current state this album serves as a sketch of what life was for me back then; a young man leaving home in search of a dream and very uncertain about his journey. All things considered I think that guy did pretty good for himself regards to having a career in music and and if you’re taking time out of your day to read this he definitely appreciates it.
