Royce 5’9″ stops by Sirius XM Hip Hop Nation to chop it up with DJ Scream about his new album, The Allegory. He talks about being inspired by The Allegory of the Cave Theory by Plato and his interest in human programming and perspective. He relates his newest work of art to the scatterbrained genius of Quentin Tarantino, bringing a mix of political views, hidden meaning, and personal perspectives into his art. He talks about growing up with brothers, participating in sports, and learning teamwork and a competitive edge that translates into work today. He clarifies that although he is only competing to push the culture and that ultimately he is not against any other artist, rather on the same team. He talks about having reached the milestone of 8 years of sobriety, why he knew it was time to make a change. He talks about having to retrain himself to not be dependent on substances to get into his creative zone. He weighs in on the state of Detroit sports and the new wave of the city’s rappers who he is happy to see succeeding. He talks about musical artistry and how technology possibly could be killing the culture with the ease of access and lack of true musical artistry in the age of computers and microwave production. Next, he complies his dream team of MCs, including Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, JID, IDK, YBN Cordae, Kash Doll, & Rapsody. He reveals that fans can look forward to the evolution of his artistry in his new album, The Allegory. He talks about evolving beyond talking about only himself in his music to a place of painting pictures with his lyrics and telling stories from different perspectives. He lists some of his favorite tracks as Tricked, Thou Shalt Not, and others.
