De La Soul – Eye Know (Amerigo Gazaway Rework) [Audio]

Amerigo Gazaway reimagines De La Soul’s “3 Feet High and Rising ” cut, “Eye Know”.

In light of the recent controversy surrounding De La Soul, Tommy Boy, and the now postponed digital re-release/30th Anniversary of their classic album “3 Feet High and Rising”, I’d like to pay my respect the best way I know how while also offering a potential solution/compromise. Here it goes: Why not launch another kickstarter and hire musicians (and/or a producer *wink wink ) to recreate the whole album with live instruments? Just like they did with “The Anonymous Nobody” except this time using the old catalog for reference. It’s not a permanent fix but at least it avoids having to deal with sound recording copyrights. To demonstrate, here’s a sample of me recreating one of my all-time favorite De La songs, “Eye Know” using live instruments (and some good ol’ fashioned whistling).
