Smino stopped by Sway In The Morning and discussed his rise to success. The 26-year-old explained his musical start as a small drum-playing church-boy, before expanding his musical talents into rhyming on paper.

A St. Louis native, Smino recalls on the chilling memory of Anthony Brown’s killing, explaining that he and his band performed in Ferguson the night prior to his death. Following this, the lyricist changed his goal to a more positive message. He moved from Missouri to Chicago, sleeping on studio floors and couches, only collecting income from performances.
