unnamed12-500x500

Often times, among the countless amount of artists backed by huge budgets and record labels, we often forget there’s another world of underground and upcoming artists who work just as hard, or even harder, to make a name for themselves. Up next, we have Maryland’s own, Jay IDK and his debut project, “Subtrap”. Honing in on one of Hip-Hop’s best elements, story-telling, Jay IDK glides through 15 records that gives “the art of trap music through another perspective” through Subtrap. Armed with a gun and keyboard, via the cover art, there’s no better depiction of the creativity that manifests within the body of work.

Speaking from the perspective of himself, along with various others that me met during his time in jail, Jay IDK crafts himself a honest and personal masterpiece. “Subtrap” is a storybook with instrumentation and melodies that simply tells Jay’s story of selling drugs, not to make a living, but to fund his dream that leads him to the moment we’re at today. Top all of this off with an evident lyrical talent that’s clearly displayed within the LP’s first track, and we have ourselves a body of work that could hold substantial weight among the big names’ 2015 releases. Jay bounces around from in your face flows to tricky wordplay that gives the LP a little bit of everything that any lover of Hip-Hop could appreciate.

If you’re ready for story time in the form of Hip-Hop, and trap music with a plethora of substance, bask in Jay IDK’s debut, below. Available via pre-order now on iTunes, if you’re loving “Subtrap”, show your support.
