Nas Lists Drake, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole Among Favorite MCs Of Today [Video]

Posted on December 28, 2016

Nas recently celebrated the 10-year anniversary to his controversially-titled LP Hip-Hop is Dead. But as the legendary poet will tell you today, the culture is alive and well. He recently sat down with REVOLT TV to discuss the state of the music and when asked who his favorite MCs of the newer eras were, five immediately came to mind.

“J. Cole, Kendrick, Drake, Wayne, Rick Ross,” he told REVOLT’s Vice Chairman Andre Harrell during a recent sit-down where the two talked politics, racism, and Nas' music among other topics.

Nas Names His Three All-Time Favorite Tracks [Video]

Posted on December 25, 2016

In the words of J. Cole from a little song called "Let Nas Down," if 2Pac was like Jesus, understand that "Nas wrote bible."

With over 20 years of scribing poetry deep, Nas Escobar's discography is a rap national treasure. From Illmatic and It Was Written through Stillmatic, Hip-Hop Is Dead and beyond, the Queensbridge legend's catalog speaks for itself and colors in the line he once left us on "Ain't Hard to Tell," wherein he rhymes: "Deep like shining, sparkle like a diamond." But quotable gems aplenty, one must wonder if it's possible for Esco himself to even have a personal all-time favorite set of tracks from his catalog - and if so, what makes the cut?

Lin-Manuel Miranda – The Hamilton Mixtape [Album Stream]

Posted on December 2, 2016

Lin-Manuel Miranda has got to be the first Pulitzer Prize winner to drop a mixtape right? This companion piece to his acclaimed Broadway play Hamilton and it’s official soundtrack features contributions from such esteemed guests as Nas, The Roots, Chance The Rapper, Queen Latifah, !llmind, Joell Ortiz, Jill Scott and several others. I don’t know how well this will sound as a straight play through for people who haven’t seen the play or aren’t at all familiar, but it has certainly got some gems. You’ll definitely want to check out “Wrote My Way Out” with Nas and Dave East, as well as Chance The Rapper and Francis & The Lights take on the original soundtrack song “Dear Theodosia”.
