Flying Lotus – Skinflick (Short Flim) [Video]

Flying Lotus returns with a new short film, “Skinflick”.

Flying Lotus directs an ode to his friend Bubble Boy Bob Heslip.

Bob Heslip—known by his performance name Bumpy Bob the Bubble Boy—suffers from Neurofibromatosis type 1 (or NF-1), a skin condition that affects 0.03% of the population and causes fleshy lumps to form all over the body.

“The short explores the surface of Heslip’s body in minute detail, revealing the beauty in his condition”
Getting up close and personal with Heslip, steve, aka music producer and filmmaker Flying Lotus, contributes to our Define Beauty series with an intimate portrait of Bob, who stars in the recording artist’s 2017 feature debut Kuso. Set to an original score, the short explores the surface of Heslip’s body in minute detail, revealing the beauty in his condition.

steve explains: “I first met Bumpy Bob when working on my feature film KUSO – I had him do a very small role for me and in the process of shooting I saw so much potential in him as an actor and a unique human being. He is a lovely man and I wanted to make a film that would honour the beauty of his unique condition.”
