Posted on June 22, 2017

Los Angeles based multi-instrumentalist Jameel Bruner is forging his path under the moniker Kintaro, launching the "Universal" EP. As the former keyboardist of The Internet and the youngest brother to Stephen "Thundercat" Brother and Ronald Bruner Jr., Kintaro's style grabs from many areas of sound, merging them as his own personal vehicle of aberration and bliss. Kintaro pieced together the "Universal" EP himself, adding recording, mixing, and mastering duties. Trap, R&B, hip-hop, grime, soul, and many other worlds find an arena to coalesce, centered around Kintaro's unique lyricism and singing. Celebrating The Life & Legacy Of Prodigy From Mobb Deep w/ DJ Premier [Video]

Posted on June 22, 2017

Veteran producer, DJ Premier joined us on Sway in the Morning to remember Prodigy from the iconic hip-hop duo Mobb Deep. The New York rapper died Tuesday at age 42 after being hospitalized for complications from sickle cell anemia. The cause of his death, however, has yet to be released. Prodigy and his partner Havoc released eight albums together as Mobb Deep. Their sophomore project "The Infamous" put them on the map and is considered one of the most important rap albums of all time.

DJ Premier tells us about recently performing with the rapper. He takes it back and explains the making of tracks like "Cop Hell" and the remix to "Peer Pressure". The record "Cop Hell" was originally supposed to be on Mobb Deep’s debut album "Juvenile Hell", however it was pulled due to controversy surrounding Ice-T's "Cop Killer". DJ Premier released the uncut track today in honor of his friend's legacy.

Big Boi On Making First Million At 20 Years Old, Meeting Mobb Deep & New “Boomiverse” Album [Video]

Posted on June 22, 2017

Big Boi from the legendary hip-hop duo Outkast stopped by Sway in the Morning to talk about the group’s legacy, his solo career and new music. Fresh off his 'Big Grams' EP, the Southern MC dropped his third studio album 'Boomiverse' earlier this month. The project features the likes of Snoop Dogg, Killer Mike, Curren$y, Gucci Mane and more.

We asked Big Boi to break down some of our favorite tracks including the meaning behind “Order of Operations.” “My uncle . . . told me years ago the operation grin-and-stack. [When] you’re getting it, you need to preserve it and then later on you won’t have to do nothing . . . I’ve been on operation grind-and-stack for about 23 years now.”

The rapper also gave his take on the Tupac biopic “All Eyez on Me” and working on an Outkast film. “We are going to do it ‘cause we want to be a part of the movie and we don’t want nobody telling our story without us being in it.”
