Dave B & Sango – Tomorrow [Album Stream]

Dave B and Sango bless us with an early stream of their upcoming joint project, “Tomorrow”. The name Seattle doesn’t exactly ring out in the story of hip-hop, certainly not the way Atlanta or New York City or Compton do. Those places are audibly recognizable. But that’s not to say that people haven’t been making notable rap music up in the northeast corner for decades. If you take a stroll back into Seattle’s past, you’ll inevitably run into Sir Mix-A-Lot and his immortal single, the title of which I don’t even need to type. If you look hard enough in the present, you’ll happen upon the left-field creative Shabazz Palaces, who doesn’t fit quite neatly into the pure hip-hop box. And then there’s perhaps the most polarizing local act of them all, Macklemore, whose earnest beginnings exploded him out of the city, making him its undisputed poster boy a few years back. It’s been relatively quiet for the locale since then — but a producer called Sango and a rapper by the name of Dave B, both Seattle natives, are ready to make a little more noise. Between subject matter and production, “Tomorrow” feels cool and gray throughout, but never dreary or gloomy. It sounds contemplative, young but wise — like the reality of living in one decision, and debating your next one. Take a listen below.

Mega Ran – The East Coast [Audio]

Since 2004, the team at Leedz Edutainment has put on for Hip-Hop from across the map. Whether it’s an up-and-coming cat from the New England area or a legendary emcee, Leedz’ placement as a top-tier promotion crew is well-known. And their new compilation, Eastern Standard, proves exactly that as it pulls together a variety of dope Hip-Hop acts with roots on the East Coast. It’s only fitting, then, that the project’s lead single is “The East Coast,” a hard-nosed head-nodder from Philadelphia native and renown Nerdcore rapper, Mega Ran. While he’s well known for his upbeat disposition on social media and more narrative-heavy joints, Ran can go toe-to-toe with the grittier spitters, too. At least, that’s what he brings on this slapper produced by Boston-based artist The Arcitype, with cuts accompanied by DJ Slipwax who works in some slick scratched vocals from The Roots’ Black Thought. “The East Coast” depicts a reality that Ran and plenty of others have experienced, from the fact that damn near “everybody can rock a mic/ and somehow 7 on 1 is the make up of a proper fight.” ‘Eastern Standard’ is due out soon via Leedz Edutainment! “The East Coast” is now available through all major digital retail platforms and streaming sites.
