Kane Mayfield – G.I. Joe + The World We Live In [Audio x Download]

“Just a little bit of fun…. because I do this… and by this I mean drink fine whiskey and makes raps. Then I usually go have tacos. Because I like tacos. I put out these two songs. One for fun (“G.I. Joe”) where I just rap and kick the living shit out of the beat, and the other (“World We Live In”) because the message is really important, ESPECIALLY with the current racial and political environment. Sometimes artists have an obligation to tell the truth and document history. Not all the time, but like.. once a year.” – Kane Mayfield

Maylay Sparks – The Rebel’s Renaissance [Album]

An icon of Philadelphia’s indie-rap scene, Maylay Sparks (fka Rahsheed) has been holding it down in Copenhagen, Denmark for over a decade and carving out his space as an international Hip-Hop giant. That much is evident on his fifth full-length album, “The Rebel’s Renaissance”, his latest project that demonstrates both maturity and street wisdom. The ten tracks on here combine for a cohesive, structured effort built on timeless instrumentals and a pen-game that has been consistently sharpened for more than 20 years. And Maylay makes his efforts clear on opener “Sleepless,” a brassy banger produced by Slovenian trio Urban Click (who worked with the MC on the 2011 EP Truckdriver Fortuneteller). Their strong instrumental game can be heard elsewhere (“Another Bottle” and standout “Protocol” feat. Rasco & El Da Sensei) while Koolade, DJ Connect, Sakke, and Ruzbeatz round out the production lineup. Whether going solo or spitting alongside guests, Maylay holds his own across TRR. You can thank his trademark gruff voice and no-nonsense cadence for that, both of which are two well-honed weapons in his arsenal. As for those guests, he uses them to his advantage throughout no matter their talents. Lead single “Illadelph Elohim” is boosted by lyrical turns from Rucker Pawk and Last Emperor while DJ Devastate scratches across the hook; Chuck Rukkuz goes for the throat on the blunted “In The Green”; and “Changing Scenery” closes out the album on a high note. Maylay, of course, gets ample credit on the closer, as he kicks fiery

King Harris II – Colors [Audio]

King Harris II and Oh No recreate Ice-T’s “”Colors”. “I always wanted to flip that beat. Colors was always one of my favorite movies; it was real in my eyes. It didn’t feel the least bit Hollywood to me. I was seeing that shit around me every day. When Oh No and I were making the album, I knew I wanted him to use this sample; especially with all of the racial tension that is going on — it was perfect,” Harris explained to AFH. iLL Chris feat. Dougie F – Numbers [Audio]

When it comes to crafting hard-bodied bangers made for raucous live shows, few rappers can top the seemingly endless energy emanating from iLL Chris. Time and time again, the Seattle rapper has shown his ability to craft massive singles. Sure enough, that remains true with his latest drop, “Numbers,” which features New Jersey spitter, Dougie F. It’s actually Dougie who opens the track with the sing-along hook and a tongue-twisting verse demonstrating exactly what these two MCs have on their side: 100 b*tches, 100 racks, and 100 n***as. In other words, you probably shouldn’t mess with their women or money, otherwise you’ll have, well, a ton of dudes coming for you. So if you do cross Dougie and Chris, that one’s on you. As for Chris, he’s still gearing up to release his new project, ‘Honor Thy Father,’ which keeps sounding better with every preview. Of course, “Numbers” continues that trend in spades, thanks in part to the production work of frequent collaborator Young Forever. These two have made some of the year’s heaviest cuts so far—check out Chris’ Soundcloud for reference—and they’re pretty much guaranteeing that ‘Honor Thy Father’ will be a problem. “Numbers” is available for streaming now, while ‘Honor Thy Father’ is due out this summer.
