Read moreLook for the upcoming REKS album, ‘The Greatest X’, (pronounced The Greatest Unknown) in Summer 2016 on Brick Records. It will feature production from Large Professor, The Alchemist, Evidence, Statik Selektah, Nottz, Apollo Brown, Black Milk, MoSS, Buckwild and Streetrunner and also guest appearances from R.A. The Rugged Man, Slaine, Termanology, Planet Asia, Rasco, Phat Kat, Guilty Simpson, Akrobatik, Reef the Lost Cauze, Dutch Rebelle, Edo G and others. REKS explains the motivation for the song: “‘Hands Up (Wink Wink)’ was made as a wake up call to those tuned out to our realities and engaged by societal distractions. In essence, I believe when a class of citizens are oppressed for an extended period of time, there is a point where they have little choice but to awaken. In today’s America, not much has changed for the masses who were labeled 3/5 of a person in The Constitution. At the song’s root is the idea of being policed differently from our neighbors solely on the basis of our melanin. We are shot in the streets like dogs and described as radical when defending the idea of our freedom.” This track was produced by Grammy Award winning STREETRUNNER, who had provided beats for Terror Squad, Lil Wayne, LL Cool J, Ludacris, Twista, Joe Budden, Nicki Minaj, The Game, Royce da 5’9″, Rick Ross and more.

Read more“Lullabies For The Broken Brain” is an odd instrumental project from Detroit producer Quelle Chris (Danny Brown. Sean P, Jean Grae, Stacey Adams). While most have come to know Quelle’s production for its oinky doink, ear gagging, smooth jazz, Lullabies reveals another aspect of his wizardry. This high flying, jello instrumental album is ideal on an armageddon evening, or as a snack of the day. Each track is dormant and juicy. “Lullabies” is an infinite instrumental ride, a backdrop for deception. For some, lullabies come to mind when fondling the planets while being lost in space. Formed in different dreams, daydreams, and hallucinations, set low in the earth or hanging high at the Alamo, lullabies seem to stir up a sort of distress that we all need at times. This project is a amalgamation of beats put together to do something. Whether to reflect on a certain animal within, or to accompany heavy drugs, Lullabies puts forth farts to provoke blah blah. Read moreMr. Sweet Satday Plies that has everyone headed to the “Ritz Carlton” after Running Off on Da Plug Twice, stopped by SITM to hang out with Heather B and Tracy. Plies has been dropping music catering to that core for some time now but admits his current situation is close to being the best its been in his career. Artists may try to downplay their numbers or act as if has no effect on them, not Plies. Admitting that everything he does, he’s going to put pride into and sometimes it leaves him wanting more when it comes to those stats. That’s exactly what has happened with his new record finally being able to connect with people across the board. That connection sometimes includes social media outlets but one thing he points out is his unwillingness to entertain the nonsense or negativity associated with it. Not a bad message to send the world grossly invested in it.
