About 8 months later Sean sent me his own take on Jidenna’s song “Classic Man”, “Ganja Man”. I played him Diablo and everything just clicked! Off of Zambian emcee Zubz’ forthcoming Nina Simone tribute project, “Last Letter to Nina: A Tribute To The High Priestess of Soul”. “Nina Simone’s influence on me sits in my view of the world more than anything else,” Zubz shared with OKP. “It’s because of artists like Nina and the songs she sang that I think a certain way or view the world through a certain lens. The honesty in her voice, the magnetism of her live recordings all add to what has shaped me as an MC as well as a person. As for doing a tribute, that was a collective idea sparked by Mizi and Inyambo. Mizi came to me with the plan to do a tribute and explained how he and Nyambz had been hearing my voice all over the soundscapes they were creating inspired by Nina Simone’s music. I heard some of the music they were incubating and I instantly resonated with the project and we knuckled down to recording. Artists like Nina are a rarity. Migos Say Slim Jesus Will Get Tested Over Lyrics [Video]

Atlanta’s own Migos talks to DJ Vlad about their involvement in Noisey Atlanta, a 10-part series regarding the popularity of the city’s hip-hop scene and culture. Both Quavo and Takeoff address previous statements that the docu-series had been scripted with scenes showing off some pretty serious assault rifles. “They shot a hell of a movie. That was a nice movie… I ain’t never shot reality TV,” Quavo belies. Stemming from their initial arrest in April, Migos’ third member Offset, is still being held without bond over drugs and gun charges which violated his probation. When the duo were asked if they thought the online video channel tried to stereotype the southern rap stars, or if they actually thought it was scripted, they stated, “If HBO come to me, and tell me they need me to be then meanest killer they want me to be, I will be.” The interview then turns to authencitiy in hip hop and how the pair feels about Slim Jesus and what it means to the culture.
