Read moreBrooklyn rap stalwart Shabaam Sahdeeq’s impressive, two-decade-long run of releases continues to grow stronger with certified slapper “Get It,” the lead single off his new ‘Modern Artillery’ EP. You’d think spending 20 years in the game would tire an MC out, right? Absolutely not, and Sahdeeq proves that as he bullies his way through a playful beat from the Amsterdam-based producer, Big Ape. He weaves together bright bursts of bells and chopped-up guitars into a boom-bap instrumental primed for his rapping collaborator, who’s getting his by any means necessary. Amid braggadocio and sharp bits of personal advice for anyone listening, Sahdeeq delivers a raw mission statement on what you can expect from his upcoming project: “Want that pure-pure? S-Dub’s supplyin’ it/ So when you hear that bullshit, you ain’t even buyin’ it.” The ‘Modern Artillery’ EP is due out Oct. 13 via Dutch/Swedish label Elite Fleet Records. Four days later, tape heads can pick up a copy for their decks as part of Cassette Store Day.

There is still a lot to learn and a lot more sounds to expand on, but I’m pretty happy with the way the project turned out. I hope you all enjoy something a little different from me.” – Saba
