DJ Yella: “I Haven’t Worked On Music With Dr. Dre Since 1991” [Video]

In this exclusive interview with VladTV, DJ Yella opens up about producing some of N.W.A.’s most memorable records and his return to the music business after his stint in the adult film industry. Yella touched on working with Ice Cube after the disbandment of N.W.A., but insists tracks like “Hello” and “Chin Check” aren’t official N.W.A tracks, but songs by Cube. When it comes to an official N.W.A reunion, the producer says, “You never know what’s going to happen.” The producer also mentions he and Dr. Dre hadn’t worked on music since 1991. During their collaborative time, he says he helped make most of the beats which has helped him live a comfortable lifestyle today. He was also offered the chance to tour with Dre for the “Up and Smoke” Tour in 2000, but was content with his lucrative work in the adult film industry. During his time in the adult film world, he produced and edited up to 300 films. Yella says he enjoyed the work, but has returned to his first love-DJ’ing. Check out more of what Yella has to say about disliking fame and more in the interview above.

COLD 187um: “Suge Was Jealous Of Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Success” [Video]

Speaking exclusively with VladTV, Cold 187um candidly discussed his former role on Death Row Records and why he wasn’t fond of Suge Knight’s business tactics after he got out of prison. Cold 187um says he was the active vice president of Death Row Records during one of Suge Knight’s jail stints. He wasn’t thrilled about visiting Suge in prison and having to manage several artists at the same time, but he says he wanted to help revive the label after the death of Tupac Shakur and the exits of Snoop Dogg, Kurupt and Daz Dillinger. Cold 187um helped bring in artists like the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes and Kxng Crooked, formerly known as Crooked I. He says he and Suge have cordial relationship to this day, but some of his past antics made him question his move to Death Row. Shortly after his release from prison, Cold 187um says Suge wasn’t happy to see the success of Dr. Dre’s Aftermath records. “He wanted to get some get back and I really wasn’t with that,” he said. “When Dre was at the height of Aftermath, he was just really so focused on ‘f*** him.’” Cold187um says he didn’t care about Dre’s movements at Aftermath because he was focused on Death Row. He was able to leave the label shortly after it was back in Suge’s hands. Calling it a humbling moment, Cold 187um says when he was indicted during the label’s bankruptcy, he was able to make an easy exit
