Wordsmith – Blue Collar Band [Video]

Wordsmith and his band played for members of U.S. Armed Services stationed overseas; dedicated soldiers who need a taste of home and deserve some Hip-Hop that speaks more to their blue collar ears. Wordsmith has always been the People’s MC because he chooses to find his artistic motivation within real life rather than the fantasy life of current Hip-Hop. Everyday people can relate and find comfort in his music because he is just like them and making music about it. Today the charged (and too often overlooked) rapper Mick Jenkins and the funk-tinged band the O’My’s—both out of Chicago—come together to drop off a new track called “Peace of Mind,” also featuring Jayin. According to Mick, the song came together casually: “I recorded this a while ago,” he tells The FADER. “On a random day I went over The O’My’s and made this hot shit with them.” But it’s much tighter than just a tossed-off jam—the O’My’s mournful orchestration is tight, Mick’s verses are sharp as ever.
