Wasiu – Picture Imperfect [Stream]

Playing around with the very common phrase “picture perfect” and the ancient concept of “don’t judge a book by it’s cover,” ‘Picture Imperfect’ is a song about masking hardships with superficial smiles. The two main characters in this song are forced to smile for the camera while baring the weights of being in an abusive relationship for one, and battling addiction for the second. I know several people who have been in very similar situations so I know the importance of addressing such issues. But it’s much more than those specific situations for me. The overall theme of masking your pain in order to preserve face really hits home. Growing up in a divorced home it seemed like the number 1 goal was to make sure that everyone on the outside thought that everything was great on the inside, even if it killed us.

On The Come Up: Joey Fatts [Video]

Joey Fatts talks ASAP Yams and staying indie for “On The Come Up”. You may have first heard Joey Fatts’ name alongside his Cutthroat Boyz crew members Vince Staples and Aston Matthews, but over the last little while, Joey Fatts has been making a name of his own. The Long Beach artist is known as much for his production as he is for his rapping, and through his unique style, he caught the ear of ASAP Yams. In our new episode of On The Come Up, Fatts explains the instrumental role Yams played in his career, recalling a time when Rocky hit him up and called him his favorite producer. Later on he speaks on his goals to stay independent, recruiting his best friend to handle the business side of things. Though if he were to sign, he wouldn’t mind a deal with Kanye West. He’s got 3 new projects on the way, including a collaboration with 9th Wonder, so stay tuned, because it’s bound to be a big year for Joey.
