With SXSW Music Festival right around the corner Hard Knock TV decided to revisit one of the most talked about panels from last year: Behind the Hit: Inside the Mind of a Producer. The panel featured Just Blaze, Drumma Boy, Salaam Remi, Dan Nakamura aka Dan The Automator and was moderated by Hard Knock TV’s own Nick Huff Barili. This video clip starts of with Just Blaze giving insight into the making of one of his hit songs “Oh Boy” which Jay Z passed on before Cam’Ron recorded to it. Just Blaze details how he started working with Roc-A-Fella records and what it took to get Jay Z’s attention. “Jay was not f&%king with me at all. Back then I didn’t know him personally, so I always had to get messages through people. Like ‘yeah Jay said he like the drums but the sample sucks’…Finally what had happened was there I was working with this artist by the name of Billy Bathgate and Jay had an artists by the name of Amil back then, she was supposed to be the first lady of Roc-A-Fella. She featured on this Bathgate record, Jay heard it, and he pulled a “Can I Get A”. “Can I Get A” was originally a Ja Rule record that he took from Ja Rule because he was Jay Z and he did the same thing, he’s like “yo give me that record”…the record was called “That’s Right”. Cambatta – Smoke & Mirrors 2: The Crack Baby [Mixtape]

The 1980’s and 90’s Crack Epidemic spread through urban streets like the Black Plague transforming our beautiful mothers and fathers into zombie like recidivists, leaving a generation of children or “crack babies” in shattered parentless environments, often to repeat the same self destructive woes of their sickened predecessors. Smoke & Mirrors 2: The Crack Baby is Cambatta’s personal drug induced testimony. LSD, DMT, shrooms, and copious amounts of medical grade cannabis were consumed and explored throughout the creation of this rhyme driven Soul quest. From beginning to end Cambatta vividly walks you through the mind set of a psychonaut. Beginning with the dark, sin-ridden dialogue of an addict, progressing song by song to the awakened, enlightened expression of a Shaman.

Vice Souletric feat. Guilty Simpson – Troublesome [Stream]

We’ve been lied to. The “land of the free and the home of the brave” may have been true at one point in American history, but the mantra couldn’t be any farther from the truth today. The media has painted a picture of minorities as criminals to be feared. Law enforcement comb the streets, often acting as judge, jury and executioner, to those who have no affiliation with criminal activity. It’s this very behavior that destroying the bedrock of our country, and the notion of liberty. Leading the pack in fighting for what’s right are Vice Soulectric, and Guilty Simpson with “Troublesome,” the debut leak taken from Vice’s forthcoming EP, ‘Vice for President.’ As Vice drops knowledge on being called into question for being wrongfully accused by those who are sworn to protect and serve, Guilty echoes a Biggie bar, reminiscing on that fact that for many, sports and entertainment are the only way for African Americans to be successful in this current system. The highly charged, futuristic head nodder produced by Vice, serves as a much needed dose of reality rap. Mark your calendars for the April 7th release of Vice for President, which is set to drop through Vice’s United Grind imprint…stay tuned!
