Oft imitated but never equaled, the DJBooth Freestyle Series ran from February 2009 through June 2011. Its 250 total entries were the work of a veritable who’s-who of underground and emerging emcees, including rising stars like Kendrick Lamar, Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller. Now, it’s back for a second round. The 33rd entry in the relaunched series comes courtesy of SonReal, the Vancouver rhymesayer who recently won Booth acclaim for Live This. On Go for Broke, the unsigned emcee flexes his lyrical muscles over original production by Superville. Fred Lozano provides original artwork to accompany the freestyle.

Recently during the Peter Thomas “Salute To Excellence” Awards ceremony, HHS1987 caught up with hip-hop pioneer DJ Greg Street to discuss the evolution of Atlanta’s Hip-Hop scene, the art of breaking records, the 2014 Source “Power 30” list and more. DJ Greg Street has been apart of the Atlanta hip-hop scene since 1995 but his journey in hip-hop started long before that. After detailing how he began mixing during his high school days, Greg Street spoke on the evolution of Atlanta’s music scene. With the urban culture being at the forefront here in Atlanta, Greg Street explained how Atlanta’s hip-hop scene has grown as the city began to grow as well. Greg Street also explained the formula to breaking artist and breaking records. Greg Street explained that there is a big misconception that DJ’s and the internet break records. Greg Street informed us that artist must breaking themselves before even getting to DJ’s, bloggers and labels. Greg Street spoke on the process that goes into truly breaking into the music game and what it takes to be success. Before concluding our interview, Greg Street addressed his ranking in the Source magazine’s 2014 “Power 30” list, his favorite Air Jordan’s and the Atlanta Hawks probably leaving Atlanta.
