Jay-Z Gets RIAA To Change Digital Album Sales Rules

New rules indeed! We think it’s time for the RIAA – and Gelfand, Rennert & Feldman – to align our digital song and album certification requirements. That’s why today we are officially updating this rule in our G&P Program requirements. Going forward, sales of albums in digital format will become eligible on the release date, while sales of albums in physical format will still become eligible for certification 30 days after the release date. The Kid Daytona – Shotgun [Audio x Download]

Marce Reazon behind the boards. This record was inspired by a few ride or die women that I’ve encountered on this journey we call life. So often I would get caught up in my ego, and just in the grind all together that I would miss out on something that could’ve been special. But being honest with myself, I knew I just wasn’t ready or maybe just really afraid of how dope these women actually were. So much so that it felt like it was too good to be true. With that being said, I wrote “Shotgun”. – The Kid Daytona Previously: The Kid Daytona – Send It Up Freestyle x Sucka MC N*ggas [Audio x Download]

DJ Premier On The Combat Jack Show (Episode 1) [Video]

In the the first part of our three part interview with DJ Premier on The Combat Jack Show, Premo explains the origins of The Notorious B.I.G.’s “Ten Crack Commandments.” He reveals the beat was originally rapper Jeru the Damaja’s, and it was used for radio host Angie Martinez’s ‘Top 5 at 9’ show. On one fateful night, Puff Daddy and B.I.G. were present for the ‘Top 5 at 9,’ and after hearing the track, requested it for Biggie’s new album. Coincidentally, Premier was tuning into the show while driving his car. “Right when I’m ready to turn the volume down, I hear them go, ‘Yo Premier, if you out there, call me!’” While Damaja and Biggie were at odds during that time period, Damaja eventually surrendered the beat, stating, “It’s hip-hop.” Later in the conversation, Premier discusses his relationship with Jay-Z, who he shares a musical repertoire with since Jay’s 1996 debut album Reasonable Doubt. Citing his own work ethic as the reason behind their bare slate in recent years (“I take a while to get you a track, and Jay ain’t waiting for nobody”), Premier also touches on how they would handle disagreements in the studio. via Complex
